What does YogaPebbles offer and where are you based?
YogaPebbles offers yoga for children, families, teens, and adults based in Northampton. We combine yoga with breath awareness, mindfulness techniques, and relaxation to help support the whole individual. YogaPebbles is a specialist in providing yoga for children with special educational needs. It is also a registered adult and youth mental health first aider. Adult classes are centered around helping you find YOUR yoga for YOUR body.
How did YogaPebbles come about?
My passion for yoga began more than 10 years ago when I was working as a Primary and Special Educational Needs teacher in Northamptonshire. Juggling a demanding job for 20 years, two young children plus family life had all started to take their toll on my mental, physical, and emotional well-being. I was tired, regularly unwell, and didn’t really know how to help myself out of this downward spiral.

Having dabbled with yoga in my 20s at university, I had forgotten how amazing it had made me feel. A kind colleague suggested that I attend a yoga class with her to help me relax and I was hooked! When I stepped back onto my mat, I found I had an inner peace and stillness within myself, along with new confidence to express how I was feeling on the inside.
Such was the impact on me that I began introducing daily relaxation sessions to my school children in my class. Profound effects materialised! The children were more relaxed and could discuss and manage their own emotions, as well as those of their friends and families. We started to connect on a much deeper level.
As my personal yoga practice grew, I knew I wanted to pass these skills on to other children and their families so, in 2017, I attended the prestigious YogaBeez training course in London, and gained my first Foundation Level certificate to teach yoga to children.
What are the benefits of yoga, especially in kids?
Yoga helps us to be the best version of ourselves. It allows the body and mind to come together to release tension and give us a greater sense of positive well-being. Yoga for children can help regulate sleep patterns, help boost the immune system, and teaches us about having respect for our bodies and honouring them. It also promotes healthy self-esteem and body image and shows us that we are all unique but equal. All of my classes are Inclusive and open to all. Yoga is for everybody and every body!
At what age can a child start yoga?
My family classes start from the age of 4 but yoga can begin at any age. I currently teach Nursery yoga in schools and wish to expand this into the local community face to face soon.
What are your plans for YogaPebbles in the future?
I am always a student and have lots still to explore in the world of yoga! I’m truly inspired by my own wonderful teachers and am due to take further training next year. I will be working alongside some local businesses and charities in the future to provide yoga to an even wider local audience. I wish to expand my yoga teachings work in schools, providing yoga to pupils staff, and parents.
