Next month the boys and I are going glamping, woohoo!! This is so exciting for us as, due to finances, that whole move from Australia we did, and covid we haven’t had many chances to go away for a holiday!
Having been born in Australia, the boys are all really keen to get to the beach. Luckily we are going to Dorset so right next to the sea. I’m just not sure they realise how cold the sea is going to be!
We are staying at a Parkdean resort where there is a pool, so even if the weather isn’t great they should still be able to get some swimming in.
When I told them we have a holiday booked the first thing they asked for was a mask and snorkel. They have had numerous sets before but they have either broken or are too difficult to use.
Is it just my kids that have trouble wearing a mask, fitting a snorkel in their mouth and keeping the end of the snorkel out of the water?!
Perhaps it is just my little weirdos but it’s not a problem for me anymore!
During one of my late-night mindless Amazon searches, I came across a full face swimming mask with a snorkel attached!
What is a full face swimming mask?
Instead of the mask just covering the eyes and nose, this mask covers, funnily enough, the whole face.
It then has a removable snorkel attached to the top. The snorkel is attached right on the top of the mask instead of on one side. It is also rigid so there is no chance of it slipping off and falling into the water.
There are a number of different masks on Amazon to choose from. We got this one. I got a small/ medium size for my 8-year-old. There are instructions in the listing for how to work out what size you will need. These ones come big enough for adults too.

The mask we got features double air flow channels which help to prevent fogging and ensure you are getting good air flow.
Being a full face swimming mask means that it gives you 180-degree views which would be amazing in the sea!
The swimming mask we got is made from safe, non-toxic and odorless food-grade silicone.
One of the features I love the most is that the straps aren’t made from the elastic you usually find on goggles. You know, that elastic that catches their hair and causes screams of pain?! This is mask has a fabric elastic which slides on so easily. They also have a quick-release catch.
The snorkel part has a float ball inside that floats up and blocks the inhaling tube which stops water from getting inside the mask.
The mask also came with a few accessories. We got:
- A spray bottle for an anti-fog solution.
- A spare valve piece
- A camera stand so you can attach your underwater camera to your mask.
- A rubber band and screw ( I think the screw is to attach the camera stand to the mask).
- A bag to keep it all in
Are full face snorkel masks dangerous?
There have been reports that people may suffer from carbon dioxide poisoning from these masks.
I have researched into this and it appears that following these concerns, the masks have been designed with this in mind.
The breathing section of the mask should be sealed off from the viewing area. The two valves I mentioned earlier help airflow. Once the mask is fitted properly, these features should send the carbon dioxide out the channels on the sides of the mask. Again, this is where it is important to get the right size mask.
I am not too worried about this for my son but as a precaution I have asked him that when using it, I want him to take the mask off for a minute or two each time he comes up to the surface. I also told him that if at any point he does feel dizzy to remove the mask and come tell me straight away.
Where can you get a full face swimming mask?
As I mentioned earlier, we got ours off Amazon here. I am really happy with the quality and my son has been using it in the bath for a few nights now and is loving it.
Do you have a full face swimming mask? What do you/ your child think of it? Let us know in the comments below.
