I have been meaning to head over to Daventry Country Park for a while as I have heard some great reviews of it. We finally headed over there yesterday and had a great day.
Daventry is just over half an hour’s drive for me so I don’t know the area very well but the country park was easy to find.
When we got there the first thing we noticed was the play area. It is pretty impressive, my boys couldn’t get out of the car quick enough!

the play area…
There is play equipment suitable for all ages – at one end of the play area there was a zip line and some other pieces of apparatus for the older kids, in the middle was a big wooden fort, a smaller fort, a jeep to pretend to drive your friends in, some musical apparatus and swings (including 2 seaters).
Alongside this was a swing set for the smaller kids that spins and a giant see-saw type thing. There are also 2 giant rhinos that you can climb on top of.
Down the end was then some baby swings and wooden climbing apparatus.
Behind the play area is a large grass area where you can set up for a picnic (there aren’t benches so you would need a blanket on the ground) and loads of space to run around. Also in this area is some adult exercise equipment.
the nature trail…
After letting the boys have a play we went off to explore the nature trail. This was really well shaded through the trees and in the middle is a reservoir that you can walk around. We didn’t walk around the whole lot as this takes the average adult approximately an hour however we had 2 toddlers with us so it would probably have taken more like 3 hours!!
We did, however, get the chance to see some ducks and geese up close on the edge of the water.
Also along the trail are accessible bird hides and lots of wildlife to look out for including deer and foxes.
facilities at Daventry Country Park…
Along with the play area, there are also toilets and a cafe selling hot or cold food however these are currently closed at the moment for refurbishment. I believe these are due to reopen by the end of Summer 2020 but please check Daventry Country Park website for details.
